"Spitfires" VIII began to arrive in North Africa in mid-1943. They were used in the final phase of the fighting in Tunisia, and then in Sicily and southern Italy. Weaponry (Spitfire Mk.(VIII) two 20 mm cannons (280 rounds), four 12.7 mm machine guns (500 rounds) and 227 kg light bombs.
