Soviet high-altitude fighter MiG-3, developed in 1940, thanks to its excellent high-altitude characteristics found wide application in the Moscow air defense system in 1941-1942. Here its large ceiling (up to 12,000 m) and speed at altitudes allowed Soviet pilots to successfully intercept German bombers and scouts. In total, about 3200 MiG-3s were built in 1940-1941.
