"Spitfires" VIII began to arrive in North Africa in mid-1943. They were used in the final phase of the fighting in Tunisia, and then in Sicily and southern Italy. In 1944, the operations in Italy attracted several more squadrons of "eight", often acting as fighter-bombers. At the front, these aircraft were equipped with a kind of suspension of two bombs of 227 kg side by side under the fuselage.
