At OKB A. I. Mikoyan and M. I. Gurevich, simultaneously with the MiG-15 and MiG-17, they began designing the aircraft with special equipment and various versions of radar stations. By the end of 1949, the work on the prototype of the night all-weather fighter-interceptor heavy type under the designation I-32O(P) was completed and presented for factory testing. It was a two-seater aircraft with two engines (originally RD-45F, later — VK-1).
