the Panzer IV was the workhorse of the Wehrmacht from 1937 to 1945 were produced 8,500 units. Ausf. D was the first production version, with 1939-40 229 pieces were produced. The original Panzer IV D was fitted with a short-barreled 7.5 cm KwK 37 L/24, but due to the low efficiency with infantry support, this gun was soon replaced by a long-barreled 7.5 cm KwK40, the same gun was subsequently mounted on the Ausf. F and G.
