Additional Information
In 1927, a group of Vickers designers, including John Cardin and Vivian Loyd, came up with a proposal to create a light tank to support the infantry. The official factory name of this machine was Vickers-Armstrong 6-Ton tank, but the designation Vickers-Armstrong Mark E, now abbreviated to VAE or Mk, was used for export deliveries.E. the Origin of index "E" is not unambiguous. The vast majority of sources indicate that the letter "E" meant "Export". On the other storony a version of "through the index", according to which the letter "E" is next, after the letter "D". The original technical solutions used in this project were subsequently actively used abroad for another 15 years. Suffice it to say that the General scheme of the chassis with suspension trolleys on plate springs is widely used in the Czechoslovak light and medium tanks firms CKD-Praga and Skoda, as well as Italian tanks from M11/39 to P26/40 inclusive (here it is worth mentioning that the model for these machines was still the same "Vickers 6-ton"). With a great deal of originality Cardin and Loyd approached the issue of weapons. Already in the initial phase of the design it was predicted that one system will be used as a purely machine-gun "cleaners trenches" and "tank destroyers" with mixed cannon and machine-gun weapons.
