For Heinkel, the Non-177 chose DB 606 engines (Sparky DB 601), although alternative powerplants were also considered. The first prototype, Not 177V1, was flown on November 9, 1939. In the first quarter of 1940, 3 more prototypes were ready, but all three were soon lost in disasters. But as availability of the next prototypes (a total of 8 built) test continued.
