MiG 23 was developed in 1964-66g, to replace the MiG-21. In addition to the much more powerful engine, a significant innovation has become a variable sweep wing. Like the F-111 US air force, the wing angle of the new MiG could change in flight. Fully open, the wing reduced mileage during takeoff and landing, and the maximum retracted increased speed. The wing has three positions: 16, 45 and 72 degrees. The prototype first took off in April 1967, put into service in 1971.
